A New Internet Optimized for Distributed Systems

Summary

DoubleZero is a new internet optimized for distributed systems, like blockchain. Backed by Multicoin, Dragonfly, and other leading VCs, it’s a global physical fiber network leveraging existing subsea and terrestrial links. Now, its native token, 2Z, is being offered to validators — the first token sale open to U.S. accredited investors since 2019.

Not Your Typical Token Sale

The DoubleZero (2Z) sale is open to core builders—specifically, it’s designed for validators across Solana, Aptos, Avalanche, Celestia, and Sui. Here’s how it works:

  • The DoubleZero (2Z) sale is open to core builders—specifically, it’s designed for validators across Solana, Aptos, Avalanche, Celestia, and Sui. Here’s how it works:
  • April 2–10: Eligible validators submit interest with their public keys and (optionally) a per-unit valuation/max budget. No commitments, no obligations.
  • Price Discovery: Submissions determine a clearing price for all participants.
  • Allocation Formula: Higher-staked validators get priority. Those who aid in price discovery (by submitting valuations, especially higher ones) may receive larger allocations.
  • Final Offer: Eligible participants receive a customized take-it-or-leave-it offer at the clearing price.

About DoubleZero

The bottleneck for blockchain today isn't compute—it's communication. Network bandwidth and latency constrain blockchain performance, validator efficiency, and limit scalability. Yet today's internet has a fundamental flaw: it was built for resilience, not performance.

DoubleZero is building a new internet optimized for distributed systems, with the goal of being fully permissionless, capable of filtering spam, and routing traffic with efficiency not possible on the public internet. Imagine blockchains, validators, RPCs, MEV systems, and many more components being able to communicate at speeds previously difficult to reach, unlocking a new era of blockchain performance, scalability, and decentralized applications. Powered by specialized FPGA hardware and dedicated fiber links, DoubleZero seeks to revolutionize blockchain infrastructure and the way data moves between validators across the globe. This is the missing foundation beneath modern distributed systems—and as a validator operator you can be part of it.

DoubleZero aims to remove the constraints the public internet has imposed on protocol designers and validator operators. We aim to accelerate decentralised and distributed systems by a decade, unlocking new use cases for blockchain systems.

Built on principles of permissionless networks and high-performance infrastructure, DoubleZero’s core contributors include Malbec Labs and Jump Crypto, networking experts, blockchain infrastructure specialists, and performance optimization engineers who all share the common goal of establishing the most efficient network protocol for distributed systems communication.

Sale FAQ DoubleZero Token Sale for Validators FAQ
Onboarding Guide

The DoubleZero (2Z) token isn’t being sold through an ordinary sale. It is being offered specifically to eligible validators across the Solana, Aptos, Avalanche, Celestia, and Sui ecosystems through a multi-step process.

  • Eligible participants first indicate interest in the sale between April 2 and April 10 by declaring their public keys and (optionally) a per-unit price and/or maximum outlay for 2Z tokens, in a non-binding form.
  • Those submissions are ingested to determine a clearing price for all participants.
  • Then, participant-specific quantities are generated. Above all, participants who have more stake on eligible networks may be offered more tokens. In addition, participants who aid in price discovery (by specifying a price on the intake form, especially a higher price) may be offered more tokens.
  • Eligible Networks include Solana, Sui, Aptos, Avalanche, and Celestia.
  • Eligible participants receive a customized take-it-or-leave-it offer, with a participant-specific quantity, and at the common clearing price.
  • Subject to passing all compliance and eligibility checks, an eligible participant can make the purchase. A participant may also choose to decline or ignore the offer at no cost.
This site is for informational purposes only and is not, and is not intended to be, an offer and sale of securities or 2Z tokens. Any offer or sale will only be done through definitive offering documents for 2Z tokens, which will be available beginning on April 15, 2025 for participants who have proven their eligibility, including KYC checks and accredited investor status for US persons, and will only be able to be accessed through CoinList. Do not rely on any other source of information regarding the 2Z token sale other than through CoinList.

We do not consider the 2Z tokens to be securities but due to the lack of clarity of the securities laws of the United States and foreign jurisdictions, only verified accredited US investors and verified non-US persons will be considered as eligible participants.

Core Features

DoubleZero is a physical fiber network spanning the globe - using existing subsea and terrestrial fiber links contributed by a diverse set of network contributors. This physical fiber layer provides an alternative pathway for distributed systems to communicate over, one that is far more stable and predictable than the public internet.

Validators on high-performance blockchains such as Solana can be inundated with a flood of inbound transactions when building a block, reducing block-building efficiency and reducing rewards. One the validator has produced a block, it has to transmit that block out to thousands of other validators so consensus can be reached before the network can advance – and DoubleZero provides a faster, more efficient base layer for that communication.

DoubleZero enables validators to operate at maximum efficiency without massive infrastructure investments—a paradigm shift for blockchain networks where communication, not computation, has become the real bottleneck.

In the Roadmap:

  • Decoupling Filtration from Execution: The protocol's fundamental innovation is separating transaction filtration (spam removal, signature verification, deduplication) from block production and execution. By using specialized hardware (FPGAs) at network edges for filtration, it is set to free validator resources to focus on consensus and execution. A single DoubleZero device can support filtration for numerous downstream validators.
  • Permissionless Network Infrastructure Layer (N1): DoubleZero envisions a new category of base layer infrastructure - a permissionless network where anyone can contribute underutilized private fiber links to form a unified, high-performance network optimized for distributed systems. The goal is to build a "new internet" specifically for blockchain and other distributed applications.
  • Economic Model for Bandwidth Sharing: The protocol intends to establish a novel marketplace where network contributors can monetize idle bandwidth capacity through smart contracts defining service levels. The purpose of this is to create network effects where individually low-value links become significantly more valuable as part of the collective network.

Tokenomics

The 2Z token is designed to underpin the utility, efficiency, and security of the DoubleZero protocol by aligning incentives between users, contributors, and community members. Once the protocol is fully operational, the 2Z token is expected to serve the following key functions:

  • Utility: In the DoubleZero system, most payments happen using 2Z tokens. People who want to use the high-performance network pay with 2Z tokens (or native tokens of the applicable blockchain protocol, which are then converted to 2Z). Network contributors who provide the connections that make up the network receive 2Z tokens as payment. This makes the 2Z token the essential currency that enables value exchange throughout the platform.
  • Efficiency: 2Z tokens reward efficiency improvements. Contributors receive tokens based on how much they enhance the network beyond what's possible on the public internet – specifically by providing more bandwidth and reducing delays. The reward system uses Shapley values (a fair way to distribute value in cooperative situations) to calculate how much each contributor deserves based on their impact on the network's overall performance.
  • Security: Security is essential for decentralization, and the 2Z token strengthens the protocol's security in three important ways:
    • Users can stake the 2Z token and facilitate network operations, i.e. doing tasks like managing traffic routing logic, verifying the attributes of connections, and ensuring rewards are distributed fairly. New 2Z tokens may be created and distributed as rewards to those who perform these functions.
    • Some of the tokens earned by network contributors may be permanently removed from circulation (burned) in specific ways that prevent too much power from concentrating in too few hands and discourage inorganic traffic from bad actors.
    • Eventually, the 2Z token is anticipated to give users the ability to participate in normal governance activities, allowing them to vote on decisions that affect the network.

The below diagram shows the general flow for the 2Z token. Please see a longer description of these core concepts at: https://economics.doublezero.xyz/overview

Technology

DoubleZero creates a new internet optimized for distributed systems. Its architecture combines specialized filtering hardware at network edges with dedicated fiber connections between validators, forming a high-performance mesh network. The Two-Ring Architecture separates functions: an outer ring filters spam and verifies signatures using FPGA devices, while an inner ring provides low-latency paths for consensus traffic. DZXs (DoubleZero Exchange points) serve as critical interconnection hubs where contributed fiber links converge, creating a global network that dramatically increases bandwidth and reduces latency for blockchain systems worldwide.

Leveraging dedicated fiber infrastructure and specialized hardware like FPGAs, DoubleZero enables high-bandwidth, low-latency communication for blockchain networks without relying on the public internet's congested pathways.

Roadmap

Introducing the DoubleZero Roadmap: The highway to accelerating high-performance distributed systems

After just 90 days post launch and 30 days of testnet operations, DoubleZero has seen remarkable interest — with 2,298+ applications to our permissioned testnet pushing capacity across 7 global data centers to 86%.

Private Testnet – Q1 2025 - Q2 2025

Our private testnet has deployed across 7 strategic global locations, giving early builders exclusive access to this new network infrastructure. During this phase, we've onboarded nearly 35 teams spanning both Solana testnet and mainnet validator environments, all exploring what's possible beyond public internet constraints.

Public Testnet – Q2 2025

The network expands in two months — DoubleZero's public testnet goes live. Validators will run nodes permissionlessly, while qualified contributors can provide bandwidth to strengthen the growing network.

Each phase will methodically introduce new capabilities as we advance toward our full mainnet launch.

Mainnet and TGE – Q3 2025

The moment arrives. DoubleZero's mainnet launch and TGE marks our full deployment. Users will experience the network's full potential, while node operators and contributors begin earning rewards for securing and expanding this new infrastructure.

Multitenancy Expansion — Q1 2026

After proving our technology on Solana, DoubleZero will expand to support multiple chains and networks. We're reimagining infrastructure for every distributed system, aiming to deliver optimal performance at every step of the way.
