Testnet FAQ | Subsquid Testnet FAQ |
dApp developers today spend too much money and time building and maintaining infrastructure for accessing blockchain data. Worse, Web3 builders are often forced to depend on centralized third-party infrastructure providers when adding essential features to their decentralized apps!
Join Subsquid as they work to build the most powerful and cost-efficient decentralized data network, designed for the future of Web3. Test key features, run worker nodes, deploy indexing projects (called squids), and provide feedback to Subsquid's product team - anyone can contribute to the testnet regardless of their experience or preferences. A new paradigm for blockchain data starts today!
Subsquid's key objectives for the Public Testnet are as follows:
Mirovia Era: Public Testnet Phase 1
Start date: Sep. 25
During the Mirovia Era, the Subsquid community’s mission will be to test network resiliency under load. Validators will operate worker nodes while developers will build squid indexers. Thousands of indexers (squids) built by the community will source Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, and other chain data from worker nodes in a decentralized fashion.
Functionality tested:
Panthalassa Era: Public Testnet Phase 2
The second phase will be focused on testing and building security for the rewards mechanisms, which will incentivize worker nodes to ingest, store, and serve data. Community members will also test the delegation of tSQD to worker nodes.
Functionality tested:
Node runners | Dev & Community participants
# of Participants | 500 (Top 133 will receive rewards) | Unlimited (Top 4000 to receive rewards) |
KYC to receive rewards | Yes
Hardware | See here | None |
Software | Non-custodial EVM wallet (i.e. Metamask) | Non-custodial EVM wallet (i.e. Metamask) |
Selection | Fill out form | None (Log into app) |
Eligibility for the Subsquid testnet is detailed in the “Who May Use the Services” section of the Terms and Conditions. Participation is restricted to jurisdictions where it is permitted by applicable law. To be eligible for rewards, participants must undergo KYC, KYB, and AML checks.
There is no selection criteria to join as a developer or community member, all that is required is to log into the network application. Infrastructure providers who run worker nodes will be informed by email.
Phase of Testnet | Approximate Duration* |
Mirovia Era | ~60 days |
Intermission** | ~14 days |
Panthalassa Era | ~60 days |
*The Subsquid team maintains the right to change the duration of testnet phases at any time.
**A ~2-week intermission will be taken between the eras to evaluate testnet progress and make necessary adjustments.
Subsquid Labs GmbH has allocated ~2% of its token supply to the testnet. ~1% or 13,300,000 SQD will be allocated to developers of indexers (squids) and other participating community members. Another ~1% or 13,300,000 SQD will be rewarded to worker node operators.
The rules to receive these rewards are as follows:
Developer and non-technical participants:
Developers as well as non-technical participants can earn tSQD by completing quests in Subsquid’s network app. Tasks include but are not limited to:
As participants earn tSQD, they will climb the Subsquid Network Leaderboard. The top 4000 participants will receive SQD rewards following the launch of Subsquid Network. These rewards will vest over 6 months following mainnet launch.
Rank on leaderboard | Number of participants | Reward pool in SQD | Reward pool (as percent of total) | Estimated reward in SQD |
1-10 | 10 | 1,330,000 | 10% | 133,000 |
11-50 | 40 | 1,330,000 | 10% | 33,250 |

401-700 | 300 | 1,330,000 | 10% | 4,433 |
701-1100 | 400 | 1,330,000 | 10% | 3,325 |
1101-1600 | 500 | 1,330,000 | 10% | 2,660 |
1601-2500 | 900 | 1,330,000 | 10% | 1,478 |
2501-4000 | 1500 | 1,330,000 | 10% | 887 |
Worker node operators
Node runners will receive points based on the following parameters:
As mainnet launch nears, 133 worker nodes will be selected in a raffle based on the number of earned points. In other words, the higher the number of points earned increases the probability for the worker node to earn a spot in the mainnet. These 133 selected nodes will each receive 100,000 SQD vested over 3 years following mainnet launch.
